Twitter will be rolling out a new method and URL for link shortening. Soon all links on Twitter will use the t.co address. It has scrapped the twt.tl URL.
Twitter is also planning on displaying the full URL for links and changing it's process of counting links against the 140 character limit of it's posts. The company has considered making URLs that are of an averge length cost at most 20 characters against the 140 character limit. This will help protect against malware, which has recently plagued the social micro-blogging website. It has not been decided exactly how Twitter will display the URLs.
Twitter is also planning on providing analytics from t.co data, which will be used in commercial accounts to help drive revenue to the company. T.co will also be a routing service that will check the validity of the destination to add a new level of security against phishing and malware.
