Facebook Strengths it Administrative Levels for Business Users

Looking to make itself even more business friendly, Facebook is introducing 5 new levels of page administration.  With the different tiers, businesses has more corporate control while allowing different types of administrators to perform tasks without having to explicitly request permission.

The five new admin roles are Manager, Content Creator, Moderator, Advertiser and Insights Analyst. The default level for all admins is “Manager,” but site owners can change an admin’s status via drop-down menu. Site owners cannot modify the privileges granted to a specific admin role, so an Advertiser cannot be allowed to respond to comments. The tiering includes 2 admin roles — Advertiser and Insights Analyst — which seem to be partially or totally designed to give restricted back-end access to third-party site partners.

The new 5-tiered admin access appears to be the latest step taken by Facebook to expand from an interpersonal social network to a full-fledged business marketing/branding platform. 2 weeks ago, Facebook launched  Facebook Pages Manager, a mobile application designed to let managers respond and comment on a page, plus post updates and photos, from a smartphone.

With Facebook now a public company, the company should continue rolling out new features and functions aimed at business, rather than personal, users.  It will be interesting to see how Facebook balances the needs of both businesses and personal users so as not to alienate users who just want to share photos of their kids and vacation pictures.
