Google recently released figures from it's latest Transparency Report that details website censorship and content removal requests. The report separates data of copyright-based removal requests and government requests. Certainly, a large number of these requests involve file sharing websites and domains.
In the past 6 months, the number of removal and take down request increased tremendously.
Most of the take down requests come from entertainment companies or trade groups representing entertainment companies. Microsoft was the top copyright owner with the most take down requests--more than 2 million URLs requested to be removed.
Following the US with take down and censorship requests is Germany, Brazil, Australia, Argentina, Canada, Turkey and the UK.
