It was GoDaddy's worst nightmare come true....
A massive DNS outage left GoDaddy's DNS servers unresponsive and customer websites completely offline.
Originally, it was thought that this massive outage was the handiwork of a hacker collective, but GoDaddy reported that it was a hardware issue. Perhaps the majority of websites that went offline were small business websites. There are quite a number of larger companies as well that rely on GoDaddy's DNS.
DNS is clearly one of the most important links in the hosting chain of a service provider like GoDaddy, and despite the complicated infrastructure of any large hosting company, DNS is critical.
