How Pinteresting...why pinterest is important to marketing

One of the fastest growing websites on the internet and proving to have its advantages over other social media sites, as Pinterest gets smarter it becomes more important (and easier) for businesses to utilize it as a marketing tool. Here are a few reasons why.

People spend more time and more money:

  • More time is spent on Pinterest than Facebook or Twitter because of its content. A site that is inspiring and brimming with ideas means that people are much more engaged and browsing for longer. The lifespan of content on Pinterest is much longer too. While a tweet will last only a few minutes a pin can last 30 days and beyond. Along with this, the average Pinterest user has a higher disposable income and is likely to spend more money on items viewed on Pinterest than those viewing items on Facebook or Twitter.

Ability to inspire purchases:

  • Pinterest captures consumers when they’re open to discovering new products and looking for inspiration. Language such as ‘need’ and ‘want’ is commonplace on the site. It is a place of discovery and also a place people can keep track of what they like and what they might like to purchase. According to this infographic, 70% of people on Pinterest use it for inspiration on what to buy when only 17% use Facebook for that same reason. This means that not only are the purchases of a higher value, more people are inspired purchase something they have seen on the Pinterest than on Facebook.

Related pins and promoted posts:

  • Pinterest now displays recommended pins called related pins based on your boards, likes and people you follow. For businesses, this means your pins have an increased chance of being noticed by potential customers. Pinners can give related pins the thumbs up or down indicating whether or not they want to see the content in future. This highlights the importance of pinning relevant and engaging content for your customers. Along with this, testing has commenced for ‘promoted pins’ in order monetize the site so it is likely advertising on Pinterest will soon be available for businesses.

Optimize your profile for greater visibility:

  • Businesses can optimize their Pinterest for search visibility by using searchable keywords to name pins, boards and for use within board descriptions. It’s worth downloading an image, renaming it and then uploading it to improve visibility.
