More bad news for marketers currently advertising or looking to do so on Facebook: recent studies indicate that, despite investing more money into advertising on Facebook, businesses saw a reasonably greater rate of click-throughs when advertising on Twitter.
The news comes on the heels of another report that indicated there is definite decline in the organic reach of content published by brands on Facebook, which has put a sour taste in many digital marketers’ mouths.
The study by Resolution Media took 20 of its clients and looked at their social media activity, totaling their ad spending to $37 million last year. And despite investing 127 percent more on Facebook ads, advertising results on Twitter came out on top.
This study isn’t the first of its kind. Last year, research firm Forrester alleged that compared to other digital marketing resources, Facebook has a lower business value.
Other key results from Resolution Media’s report include:
Currently, Facebook still has more users than Twitter: 1.2 billion compared to Twitter’s 241 million. And while advertising on Facebook does reach an extensive audience, Twitter may soon overtake Facebook advertising. The social media platform will soon launch 15 new forms of ads, which include app-install ads which will allow users to tap a button to download the app that paid for the ad on Apple and Android platforms.
