Web design has come a long way since the days of Geocities and scrolling florescent text. Now a muli-million dollar industry, web design has turned into one of the most lucrative ways to advertise and sell a product or service. Harnessing the current and upcoming web design trends is a great way to advertise to customers that the company has a keen eye for development and keeping with the times. There are quite a handful of evolving designs that might be worth the redesign effort.
Parallax scrolling
This technique was used mostly with the gaming industry 10 to 15 years ago where background images move by the camera slower than foreground images, creating depth to images and text. It relies heavily on JavaScript because it has to manipulate the position of all the elements throughout the page, which may result in slow loading for those with slower internet connections. Still, this effect is a low-cost design that can add a unique touch to a site.
Single page design
Most websites utilize navigation links to distribute content to a few different pages. But if a website is small enough that all its information can fit onto one page, then why not implement that idea to your advantage? It’s an excellent way to reduce clutter or unnecessary text, and often employs parallax scrolling.
Fixed headers
Definitively one of the most popular web redesigns, this function positions a fixed navigation bar on the top of the webpage that does not move even when scrolling down the page. This makes it easier for customers searching the website, as they do not have to continually scroll up to the top to jump to different pages.
Flat web design
Simplicity is king with this design. Flat design renounces the use of gradients, shadows, and unnecessary decorations, and instead uses bold lines and eye-catching typography to not only create a clean look, but also allow pages to load faster.
Larger fonts
Tying in with the flat web design, using larger fonts creates striking and noticeable content that is easier on the eyes and, when done properly, is aesthetically pleasing as well. Interfaces with larger, bold fonts are easier to access, and web designers can play around with color schemes that would not ordinarily be used.
