Well, this year Christmas came early for me, Chanukah was late, but none the less PRESENTS. While most people may think the greatest gift of all is love I think it's Facebook's new "Privacy Shortcuts" tab.
Not only is this gem the perfect holiday gift from Facebook after InstaGate, but it appeared on my profile the moment I needed to see it, Saturday morning. Oh Facebook, you know me to well.
These are 3 reasons this is greatest gift Facebook could give for the Holiday Season.
Problem #1: That Holiday Party may have been on Friday, but those pictures will live on…forever, and who knows if Facebook is planning to sell them.
Solution: "Who can see my stuff?" - Yes this was already built in to Facebook, but now you're 2 quick clicks away from damage control, the Activity Log. Check every picture you've recently been tagged in and flag everyone of those bad boys you don't want Grandma to see, or you know, just untag yourself.
Problem #2: The Holiday Stalker. Let's face it we're all pretty awesome here, and sometimes we get a little to social sometimes. Being friendly is what the holidays are about [and presents] which is fine… if the other person realizes that you don't want to keep getting christmas cat memes in your messages box.
Solution: "Who can contact me?" - Now Facebook falls a little short on this one, but hopefully in the future we can specifically limit who, even within our friends, can contact us via messages. It'd be even better if we could block the chat feature from specific "friends."
Problem #3: We all know someone who goes off the deep-end, and the holidays are a chance for us to go home realize how crazy they've actually gotten. The moment you reconnect with this person they also want to rekindle the good ol' days of college/high school, except they're out of their mind, so you'll pass, or better yet in this game you'll take the defense and just block.
Solution: "How do I stop someone from bothering me?" - Yes it's actually titled that, and it's that simple add their name & they become apart of the illustrious list of people who you couldn't just unsubscribe from, the Blocked. Just remember, when you block someone you also defined them, and if they are as crazy as you think, they might notice.
Happy Holidays
