Twitter has a highly engaged mobile user base. Based on mobile application popularity, Twitter has begun to fall behind Google+ in around the world, according to a study by GlobalWebIndex.
The study ignores third-party apps, as well as Gmail, which may have a greater effect on the study if they were counted.
The most popular application for smartphone owners around the world is Google Maps. In the previous month alone, Google Maps is used by 54% of users, according to FierceMobileContent. Apple Maps is nowhere to be seen in the running for top apps.
Facebook, should certainly be mentioned, as it is used by 44% of the study respondents. YouTube is not that far behind Facebook with 35%. Weixin / WeChat makes it to No. 5 with a huge subscriber based in China.
Although it is not in the running, it should be mentioned that Vine has claimed 2% market share.
